Aftercare Guide

Botox & Dysport Aftercare

Reviewed by Dr. Alexander Landfield, Board-Certified Neurologist

Your Botox treatment is complete — now follow these neurologist-approved aftercare instructions from Rani Beauty Clinic to ensure optimal results, minimize bruising, and maximize the longevity of your treatment.

Immediately After Treatment

  • 1Stay upright for at least 4 hours after treatment — do not lie down or bend forward
  • 2Gently exercise the treated muscles by making facial expressions (frowning, raising eyebrows, squinting) for 1–2 hours
  • 3Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the injection sites
  • 4Apply gentle pressure with a cold compress if you notice any bruising (do not apply ice directly to skin)

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and vigorous physical activity for 24 hours
  • Do not consume alcohol for at least 24 hours (increases bruising risk)
  • Avoid wearing hats, headbands, or anything that puts pressure on the treated area
  • Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated if possible
  • Skip facial treatments, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and other skin procedures
  • Avoid excessive heat: saunas, hot tubs, prolonged sun exposure

First Week

  • Results begin to appear within 3–5 days, with full effect visible at 10–14 days
  • Avoid facials, RF microneedling, laser treatments, and other skin procedures for 2 weeks
  • Do not take blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba) for 48 hours
  • You may apply makeup after 4–6 hours post-treatment
  • Report any unexpected drooping, asymmetry, or difficulty swallowing to our clinic immediately
  • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen daily

Long-Term Care & Maintenance

  • Schedule your next Botox appointment in 3–4 months for maintenance
  • Consistent treatments over time can train muscles to relax, potentially extending results
  • Avoid extended sun exposure which can accelerate the breakdown of neurotoxin
  • Maintain a good skincare routine to complement your Botox results
  • Consider combining Botox with other treatments (HydraFacial, fillers) for comprehensive rejuvenation

Things to Avoid

  • Rubbing, massaging, or pressing on injection sites for 24 hours (can cause migration)
  • Lying down or bending forward for 4 hours post-treatment
  • Strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 24 hours
  • Alcohol consumption for 24 hours
  • Blood-thinning medications and supplements (consult Dr. Landfield first)
  • Other facial treatments for 2 weeks

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for Botox to work?

Botox typically begins to take effect within 3–5 days, with full results visible at 10–14 days. Some patients notice improvement as early as 24–48 hours. Dysport may work slightly faster, with some patients seeing results in 2–3 days. If you don't see full results after 2 weeks, contact our clinic for a follow-up assessment.

How long does Botox last?

Botox results typically last 3–4 months, though this varies by individual. Factors that affect longevity include metabolism, muscle strength, dosage, injection technique, and area treated. With regular treatments, some patients find their results last longer over time as the muscles are trained to stay relaxed.

Can I lie down after Botox?

Avoid lying down for at least 4 hours after your Botox treatment. This helps prevent the neurotoxin from migrating to unintended muscles. When you do lie down, try to sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated for the first night.

Can I exercise after Botox?

Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and vigorous physical activity for at least 24 hours after Botox. Increased blood flow and blood pressure from exercise can cause the neurotoxin to spread beyond the intended treatment area. Light walking is acceptable.

Why does a neurologist supervise Botox at Rani Beauty Clinic?

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a neurotoxin that works by blocking nerve signals to muscles. Dr. Alexander Landfield, our board-certified neurologist, has specialized training in nerve anatomy, neuromuscular junction function, and the pharmacology of botulinum toxin. This expertise translates to more precise placement, better dosing accuracy, and enhanced safety — reducing risks like ptosis (eyelid drooping) or asymmetric results.

What happens if I don't like my Botox results?

Botox is not permanent — results will naturally wear off within 3–4 months. If you're unhappy with your results before then, contact our clinic. In some cases, Dr. Landfield can administer additional units to correct asymmetry or adjust the treatment. This is another advantage of neurologist supervision — the expertise to make precise adjustments.
