Dysport Aftercare: What to Do After Your Treatment

Your Dysport treatment is complete. Follow this aftercare guide - reviewed under the supervision of Dr. Alexander Landfield, our Board-Certified Neurologist and Medical Director - to protect your results, minimize bruising, and know exactly when to contact the clinic.

The essentials: stay upright for 4 hours, keep hands off the treated area, skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and call the clinic if you notice drooping or asymmetry.

1

Immediately After Treatment

  • Remain upright for at least 4 hours - do not lie down, nap, or bend forward at the waist
  • Do not touch, rub, or massage the injection sites
  • Gently move the treated muscles (frown, raise your brows, squint) during the first hour if your provider recommends it
  • If you notice a small bruise, hold a cloth-wrapped cold compress near the area without pressing on the injection points
  • Avoid hats, headbands, helmets, or anything that presses on the treated area
2

First 24 Hours

  • Skip strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and anything that significantly raises your heart rate for 24 hours
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours - it can increase bruising and swelling
  • Stay out of saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, and hot yoga; avoid activities that cause heavy sweating
  • Wait at least 4-6 hours before applying makeup, and only if the injection points have fully closed
  • Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated the first night if you can
  • Skip facials, facial massage, and other skin treatments - keep pressure off the treated area
3

First Week

  • Watch for early results - many patients notice movement beginning to soften within 2-3 days
  • Expect the full effect at around 2 weeks; judge your results at the 14-day mark, not before
  • Continue to avoid facials, facial massage, RF microneedling, and laser treatments on the treated area for about 2 weeks
  • Resume your normal skincare routine after 24 hours, but be gentle around injection sites
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily
  • Contact the clinic promptly if you notice asymmetry, heaviness, or eyelid drooping
4

Long-Term Care

  • If this is your first Dysport treatment, a 2-week follow-up lets your provider assess your response and fine-tune future dosing
  • Most patients schedule maintenance treatments every 3-4 months - your provider will advise the right interval for you
  • Keep a consistent treatment schedule; regular appointments make results more predictable over time
  • Note how long your results last between visits so your provider can adjust your plan
  • Maintain daily sun protection and a consistent skincare routine to complement your results

Things to Avoid After Dysport

Alcohol for 24 hours after treatment
Facials, facial massage, microneedling, and laser treatments on the treated area for about 2 weeks

Aftercare FAQs

When does Dysport kick in?

Most patients begin to notice muscle movement softening within 2-3 days of treatment, which is often slightly sooner than other neurotoxins. The full effect typically develops by about 2 weeks. Wait until the 14-day mark before judging your final result - if you have concerns at that point, contact our Renton clinic and your provider will assess whether an adjustment is appropriate.

Can I work out after Dysport?

Wait at least 24 hours before strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or hot yoga. Elevated heart rate, blood pressure, and heavy sweating in the first day may increase bruising and could encourage the product to move from the intended treatment area. Light walking is fine the same day. After 24 hours, you can return to your normal fitness routine.

Is Dysport aftercare different from Botox aftercare?

The core aftercare is essentially the same for both: stay upright for 4 hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, skip strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours, and avoid facials or facial massage on the area for about 2 weeks. The main practical difference is timing - Dysport often shows early results within 2-3 days, so you may notice changes a little sooner. Both reach full effect at around 2 weeks.

What happens if I accidentally lie down after Dysport?

Don't panic - the 4-hour upright guideline is a precaution to reduce the chance of the product migrating before it settles. If you briefly lay down, simply return to an upright position and avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the treated area. If you fell asleep for an extended period soon after treatment or notice heaviness, drooping, or asymmetry in the following days, contact the clinic and your provider will advise.
