Aftercare Guide

HydraFacial MD Aftercare

Reviewed by Dr. Alexander Landfield, Board-Certified Neurologist

Your HydraFacial is complete and your skin is glowing — follow these simple aftercare steps to extend your results and keep your skin looking radiant for weeks.

Immediately After Treatment

  • 1Enjoy your immediate glow — HydraFacial results are visible right away
  • 2Your skin may appear slightly pink or flushed; this is normal and resolves within 1–2 hours
  • 3Avoid touching your face unnecessarily for the first few hours
  • 4Do not apply makeup for at least 6 hours to let your skin fully absorb the serums

First 24 Hours

  • Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to keep skin hydrated
  • Use SPF 30+ sunscreen before going outdoors — your skin is more sensitive after treatment
  • Avoid harsh cleansers, scrubs, and exfoliating products
  • Skip retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and vitamin C serums for 24–48 hours
  • Avoid excessive heat: saunas, steam rooms, hot showers
  • Drink plenty of water to support skin hydration from within

First Week

  • Continue using gentle, hydrating skincare products
  • Reintroduce your regular skincare routine (retinoids, acids) after 48 hours
  • Apply sunscreen daily — this is the single most important aftercare step
  • Your skin may continue to improve over the next 5–7 days as the serums continue working
  • Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or other facial procedures for at least 1 week

Long-Term Care & Maintenance

  • Schedule monthly HydraFacials for optimal maintenance
  • Combine with other treatments (RF microneedling, chemical peels) for enhanced results
  • Maintain a consistent at-home skincare routine between sessions
  • Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet for the best skin health

Things to Avoid

  • Makeup for the first 6 hours post-treatment
  • Harsh exfoliants and active ingredients (retinoids, AHAs) for 24–48 hours
  • Direct sun exposure without SPF protection
  • Picking or touching the face excessively
  • Chlorinated pools and hot tubs for 24 hours

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do HydraFacial results last?

HydraFacial results are visible immediately and typically last 5–7 days for the initial glow. With regular monthly treatments, the cumulative benefits improve skin texture, tone, and hydration over time. Many patients report that their skin quality progressively improves with each session.

Can I wear makeup after a HydraFacial?

We recommend waiting at least 6 hours before applying makeup after your HydraFacial. This allows the treatment serums to fully absorb into your skin without being blocked by cosmetic products. When you do apply makeup, use clean brushes and gentle, non-comedogenic products.

How often should I get a HydraFacial?

For optimal results, we recommend monthly HydraFacial treatments. This aligns with your skin's natural 28-day renewal cycle. Some patients with specific concerns (acne, hyperpigmentation, aging) may benefit from more frequent sessions initially, then transitioning to monthly maintenance.

Is redness after HydraFacial normal?

Yes, mild pinkness or flushing immediately after a HydraFacial is completely normal and typically resolves within 30 minutes to 2 hours. This is simply increased blood flow to the skin's surface from the treatment. If redness persists beyond 24 hours, contact our clinic.

Can I combine HydraFacial with other treatments?

Yes, HydraFacial pairs beautifully with many other treatments. Popular combinations include HydraFacial + red light therapy (same day), HydraFacial + Botox (can be done same day — Botox first, then HydraFacial), and HydraFacial as prep before RF microneedling or chemical peels (done on separate days). Ask your clinician about the best combination for your goals.
