The first injection is a milestone in your GLP-1 weight management journey. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we make this experience as comfortable and straightforward as possible. Here is exactly what to expect.

Before the Injection

Your provider reviews your health assessment and confirms your starting dose. GLP-1 therapy always begins at a low dose to allow your body to adjust gradually. This conservative start minimizes side effects and gives your provider data about how you respond before increasing the dose.
Your provider will explain the medication, its mechanism of action, expected effects, potential side effects, and your specific treatment plan. This is your opportunity to ask any remaining questions.

The Injection Itself

GLP-1 medications are administered as an IM injection (intramuscular injection). The injection site is cleaned with an alcohol swab, and the medication is injected using a fine needle. The injection itself takes just a few seconds.
Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch or mild pressure. The discomfort is minimal and resolves immediately. If you have anxiety about needles, let your provider know. They can talk you through the process and use distraction techniques to make the experience more comfortable.

Immediately After

After your injection, you can resume all normal activities. There is no recovery period, no restrictions, and no bandage beyond a small adhesive strip. Most patients leave the clinic within minutes of their injection.
You may feel completely normal after your first injection. GLP-1 medications take time to build to therapeutic levels, so you may not notice appetite changes or other effects for the first few days or even until after the second or third injection.

The First 24 to 48 Hours

During the first day or two after your initial injection, pay attention to how you feel. Most patients on the starting dose experience minimal or no side effects. If you do notice anything, it is typically mild. Slight decrease in appetite. Mild nausea (usually manageable and brief). Slight fatigue.
Stay hydrated, eat regular meals focusing on protein, and avoid greasy, heavy, or overly large meals that may exacerbate any GI effects.

The First Week

During the first week, your body is adjusting to the medication. Some patients notice a reduction in appetite and food noise (the constant mental chatter about food) within days. Others may not notice changes until after the second or third dose. Both responses are normal.
Continue eating regular, balanced meals even if your appetite is reduced. Skipping meals entirely can cause nausea, low energy, and poor nutrition. Focus on smaller, protein-rich meals throughout the day.

Tracking Your Experience

Start a simple tracking system from day one. Record your weight, how you feel, any side effects, your appetite level, and what you ate. This information is valuable for your provider at Rani Beauty Clinic when adjusting your treatment plan at follow-up appointments.
A simple note on your phone or a dedicated journal works well. You do not need a complex tracking system. Consistent, basic notes provide the information your provider needs.

When to Contact Your Provider

While serious side effects from the starting dose are rare, contact Rani Beauty Clinic if you experience persistent vomiting that prevents you from keeping fluids down, severe abdominal pain, signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), or any symptom that concerns you.

Looking Ahead

Your first injection is the beginning of a process. The starting dose is intentionally low, and your provider will increase it gradually over the following weeks based on your tolerance and response. Each subsequent appointment builds on the data gathered from your experience with the current dose.
At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, we are with you at every step. Your first injection is the first step toward a healthier, more energetic, and more confident version of yourself.
