GLP-1 medications create a powerful foundation for weight loss, but dietary choices determine whether you maximize results while maintaining health. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, our program includes nutritional guidance tailored to GLP-1 therapy.

Protein prioritization is the single most important strategy. As appetite decreases and caloric intake drops, muscle preservation becomes critical. Without adequate protein, the body catabolizes muscle along with fat, reducing metabolic rate. Aim for at least one gram of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight daily.

Protein-first eating means starting each meal with your protein source before vegetables and carbohydrates. Since GLP-1 medications reduce appetite, you may not finish your plate. Eating protein first ensures this critical need is met even if you cannot complete the meal.

High-quality sources include lean meats, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, legumes, and tofu. Protein shakes can fill gaps when solid food intake is limited. Space protein across three to four eating occasions daily for optimal absorption.

Fiber supports digestive function and satiety. Maintain intake through vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes. Increase gradually to avoid exacerbating medication-related GI effects.

Hydration requires deliberate attention as reduced food intake naturally reduces water obtained through food. Aim for at least sixty-four ounces daily, more during exercise. Sip throughout the day.

Micronutrient adequacy becomes important with less total food consumed. A daily multivitamin provides insurance. Monitor iron, vitamin D, calcium, and B vitamins specifically. Our wellness injection program provides B12 and vitamin D directly.

Foods to limit include fried and high-fat foods that worsen nausea, sugary beverages providing empty calories, alcohol providing empty calories with potential medication interactions, and carbonated beverages that increase GI discomfort.

Meal planning helps make the most of reduced appetite. Prepare protein-rich meals in advance. Keep healthy snacks accessible. As weight loss progresses and appetite normalizes, nutritional needs evolve toward maintenance patterns.

Our team provides nutritional support throughout your GLP-1 journey, adjusting recommendations as your body composition changes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

Aim for at least one gram per kilogram of ideal body weight daily. For a person targeting 150 pounds, that is approximately 68 grams daily at minimum. Higher intake may benefit muscle preservation.

Alcohol is best minimized during therapy. It provides empty calories, can worsen GI effects, and may affect blood sugar regulation. If you do drink, choose low-calorie options in moderation.

Calorie counting is not essential as the medication naturally reduces intake. However, tracking protein specifically is recommended to ensure adequate muscle preservation.
