Laser hair removal is one of our most popular services at Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, and patients have many questions before starting their treatment series. This comprehensive FAQ addresses every common concern.
How does laser hair removal work? Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus emits concentrated light that targets melanin in the hair follicle. The light converts to heat, damaging the follicle's ability to produce hair. The integrated Dynamic Cooling Device protects the surrounding skin during treatment.
Is it truly permanent? Laser hair removal produces permanent reduction, meaning seventy to ninety percent of treated hairs will not regrow. Some follicles may produce finer, lighter hairs that are far less noticeable. Occasional maintenance sessions address any regrowth.
How many sessions do I need? Most body areas require six to eight sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart. The number depends on the treatment area, hair color and thickness, and individual response. Hormonal areas like the chin may need additional maintenance.
Does it hurt? Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus has integrated cooling that dramatically reduces sensation. Most patients describe a brief snapping feeling followed by cooling. Sensitivity varies by body area, with bikini and underarms being more sensitive than legs and arms. Treatments become more comfortable as hair thins.
Can it treat all skin tones? Yes. Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus offers dual wavelengths: the Alexandrite 755nm for lighter skin and the Nd:YAG 1064nm for darker skin tones including Fitzpatrick types IV through VI. We calibrate settings for each patient's specific skin tone.
What about light or grey hair? Laser targets melanin, so it is most effective on dark hair. Light blonde, white, red, and grey hair may not respond well because they lack sufficient melanin. A consultation determines whether your hair type is suitable for laser treatment.
How should I prepare? Shave the treatment area twenty-four to forty-eight hours before your appointment. Do not wax, pluck, or use depilatory creams, as these remove the hair root the laser needs to target. Avoid sun exposure and self-tanners for two weeks before treatment.
What about aftercare? Apply soothing aloe vera gel and avoid heat, sun, and strenuous exercise for twenty-four hours. Apply SPF 30 or higher to treated areas daily. Shaving is the only hair removal method allowed between sessions.
How long does each session take? Treatment time depends on the area. Upper lip takes five minutes. Underarms take ten minutes. Bikini takes fifteen to twenty minutes. Full legs take thirty to sixty minutes. Back takes thirty to forty-five minutes.
What areas can be treated? Nearly all body areas including face, underarms, arms, legs, bikini, Brazilian, back, chest, shoulders, abdomen, fingers, and toes. The only area we do not treat with laser is inside the orbital bone around the eyes.
Can I get laser during pregnancy? Laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy. There is no evidence of harm, but safety has not been established. We pause treatment during pregnancy and resume afterward.
What is the cost? Pricing depends on the treatment area, with packages offering significant savings over individual sessions. Schedule a consultation for specific pricing for your desired treatment areas.
How far apart are sessions? Sessions are spaced four to six weeks for face and underarms, and six to eight weeks for body areas. This timing corresponds to hair growth cycles in each region.
Can I laser my bikini area? Yes. Both standard bikini and full Brazilian treatments are available and among our most popular services. The Candela system's cooling makes even this sensitive area comfortable.
What happens between sessions? Treated hairs shed over one to three weeks after each session. Between sessions, shave as needed. Do not wax or pluck. Apply sunscreen to treated areas. Attend all scheduled sessions for optimal results.
