Proper aftercare following lip filler maximizes your results, minimizes downtime, and reduces the risk of complications. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we provide detailed aftercare guidance with every lip treatment. Following these steps ensures you get the best possible outcome from your investment.

The first twenty-four hours are the most important. Ice intermittently for ten minutes on, ten minutes off during the first several hours to reduce swelling. Avoid strenuous exercise, hot temperatures including saunas and hot showers, and alcohol, all of which increase blood flow and swelling. Sleep with your head elevated on an extra pillow to minimize overnight fluid accumulation in the lips. Avoid pressing, massaging, or touching the lips, as the filler needs time to integrate with surrounding tissue.

Swelling is the most common immediate effect and is entirely normal. Lip filler swelling typically peaks at twenty-four to forty-eight hours post-treatment. The upper lip usually swells more than the lower lip. The initial appearance may look more dramatic than your final result. Do not judge your results during this swelling period. The true result becomes visible at ten to fourteen days as all swelling resolves.

Bruising is possible but not guaranteed. The lips have dense vasculature, and even careful injection may produce minor bruising. Arnica supplements taken before and after treatment may reduce bruising severity. Avoiding blood-thinning supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and NSAIDs for one week before treatment minimizes bruising risk. If bruising occurs, it typically resolves within seven to ten days.

Hydration is crucial for optimal filler performance. Hyaluronic acid filler attracts and holds water, so adequate hydration helps the filler perform its best. Drink plenty of water in the days following treatment. Apply hydrating lip balm frequently to maintain external moisture. Dehydration can make filler feel firmer and less natural.

Avoid specific activities for the first two weeks. Do not have dental work performed during this period, as the manipulation and stretching of the lips can displace filler before it fully integrates. Avoid facial treatments including chemical peels, laser treatments, and facials that may affect the lip area. Avoid extreme temperatures including very hot or very cold foods and beverages for the first forty-eight hours.

Lumps or unevenness in the first week are often temporary swelling rather than filler problems. The swelling resolves unevenly as the lips heal, which can create temporary asymmetry. Most apparent irregularities resolve on their own by the two-week mark. If lumps or unevenness persist beyond two weeks, contact Rani Beauty Clinic for assessment. Minor irregularities can be smoothed with gentle massage or a small amount of additional filler at a touch-up appointment.

The two-week follow-up at Rani Beauty Clinic allows us to assess your results once swelling has fully resolved. At this appointment, we evaluate symmetry, volume distribution, and overall appearance. If additional filler is desired, it can be added at this visit. If any minor adjustments are needed, they are addressed. This follow-up ensures your final result meets your expectations.

Long-term lip filler maintenance involves staying hydrated, using SPF lip products daily, and scheduling touch-up appointments as the filler gradually metabolizes. Most patients schedule maintenance every six to twelve months, depending on their metabolism and desired fullness level. Regular maintenance at consistent intervals produces the most stable, natural-looking results over time.

Products to avoid after lip filler include retinoid lip products for the first week, exfoliating lip masks for two weeks, and lipstick or lip stain for twenty-four hours. Gentle lip balm is the only product recommended for the first day.

Swelling peaks at twenty-four to forty-eight hours and progressively resolves over seven to fourteen days. The upper lip typically swells more than the lower lip. Your true result is visible at approximately two weeks post-treatment.

Wait twenty-four hours before applying lipstick or lip stain. After the first day, gentle lip color is fine. Avoid lip plumping products containing irritants like cinnamon or mint for two weeks, as they can increase swelling.

Temporary unevenness during the first two weeks is usually due to differential swelling and resolves on its own. If asymmetry or lumps persist beyond two weeks, contact us for assessment. Minor irregularities can usually be corrected easily at a follow-up appointment.
