Common Concerns

Bruising after injectable treatments is one of the most common concerns for patients, especially those with upcoming events or professional commitments. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we take a proactive approach to bruise prevention and offer practical guidance for managing any bruising that does occur.

Prevention starts before your appointment: The most effective bruise prevention happens in the days before your treatment. Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for three to seven days before your appointment (with your prescribing doctor's approval for any prescription medications). Common blood thinners to avoid include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, turmeric supplements, and alcohol.

Arnica Montana, taken as a supplement starting two to three days before treatment and continuing for several days after, has been shown to reduce bruising severity and duration in many patients. Bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple, may also help. Both are available at health food stores without a prescription.

Hydration before treatment supports vascular integrity. Well-hydrated tissue bruises less easily than dehydrated tissue. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment.

During treatment, your provider's technique matters significantly. At Rani Beauty Clinic, our injectors use fine-gauge needles and cannulas where appropriate. Cannulas, which are blunt-tipped instruments, are particularly useful for filler placement because they push blood vessels aside rather than puncturing them. Gentle injection technique, knowledge of facial vascular anatomy, and immediate post-injection pressure on injection sites all reduce bruising risk.

Immediately after treatment: Ice the treated area for 10 to 15 minutes to constrict blood vessels and reduce the extent of any bruising. Our team applies ice or cold packs before you leave the clinic. Continue cold compresses at home for the first 24 hours, applying for 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off.

If bruising develops: Bruising typically appears within the first 24 hours and progresses through a color spectrum: red to purple to blue to green to yellow. The entire bruising cycle takes seven to fourteen days to resolve completely. Small bruises from Botox may resolve in three to five days. Larger bruises from filler, particularly in vascular areas like the lips or under-eyes, may take seven to ten days.

Concealing bruises: After 24 hours, you can apply makeup to conceal bruising. A green-tinted color corrector neutralizes the purple and red tones of fresh bruises. A yellow-tinted corrector works better for the later green and blue stages. Apply color corrector, then foundation, then setting powder for the best coverage. Many patients find that a good concealer makes bruising virtually invisible.

Laser bruise treatment: If you have an important event and need a bruise to resolve faster, certain vascular lasers can speed bruise healing. Ask our team about this option if you have a time-sensitive need.

When to be concerned: Normal bruising is flat, progresses through the expected color spectrum, and resolves within two weeks. Contact Rani Beauty Clinic if you experience a bruise that is expanding rapidly after the first 24 hours, severe pain that is not improving, numbness or white discoloration in the treatment area, or any bruise that shows no improvement after two weeks. These rare situations may require clinical assessment.

Reality check: Despite best prevention efforts, some patients are more prone to bruising than others. Thinner skin, certain medications, and individual vascular anatomy can make bruising more likely regardless of technique. If you are bruise-prone, plan your injectable appointments with a few days of social buffer afterward.
