This difference matters because shorter pulses deliver energy in a photomechanical rather than photothermal manner.
In practical terms, nanosecond lasers break tattoo ink into smaller pieces primarily through heat. Picosecond lasers shatter ink particles into much tinier fragments through a pressure wave effect. These smaller fragments are more easily absorbed and cleared by your body's immune system, which means faster fading and fewer sessions overall.

Treatment time depends on the tattoo size but typically ranges from a few minutes for small tattoos to 30 minutes or more for larger pieces.
After treatment, the area may appear white or frosted immediately, which resolves within minutes to hours. Redness, swelling, and possible blistering are normal and typically resolve within one to two weeks.
