Nutrient deficiencies are far more common than most people realize, and they can significantly affect energy, mood, immune function, and weight management outcomes. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, nutritional testing helps us identify and address deficiencies that may be undermining your health.

<h2>Why Deficiencies Are So Common</h2>

Modern diets, even ones that seem healthy, often fall short in key nutrients. Processed foods, depleted soils, limited sun exposure (especially in the Pacific Northwest), chronic stress, certain medications, and gut health issues all contribute to widespread nutrient deficiencies. Patients on calorie-restricted diets or GLP-1 therapy, who may be eating significantly less, are at particular risk.

<h2>Vitamin D</h2>

Vitamin D deficiency is extremely common in the Pacific Northwest, where limited sun exposure from fall through spring makes it nearly impossible to produce adequate vitamin D through sunlight alone. In the Renton area, many of our patients have suboptimal levels.

Vitamin D affects bone health and calcium absorption, immune function, mood and mental health (low D is associated with depression), muscle function, inflammatory response, and possibly weight management (low D is correlated with higher body fat).

Optimal levels are generally considered 40 to 60 ng/mL, though the standard reference range starts at 30 ng/mL. Many patients test well below even the lower threshold. Supplementation with vitamin D3, often combined with K2 for proper calcium utilization, is the standard approach.

<h2>Vitamin B12</h2>

B12 is essential for energy production, red blood cell formation, nerve function, and DNA synthesis. Deficiency causes fatigue, brain fog, tingling in extremities, mood changes, and anemia. B12 deficiency is common in vegetarians and vegans (B12 is found primarily in animal products), patients on acid-reducing medications (metformin, PPIs), older adults with reduced absorption capacity, and patients with GI conditions affecting absorption.

<h2>Iron</h2>

Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide, particularly in women of reproductive age. Iron is essential for oxygen transport, energy production, and immune function. Low iron causes fatigue, weakness, pale skin, cold intolerance, hair loss, and poor exercise tolerance. We test ferritin (stored iron) in addition to serum iron for a complete picture.

<h2>Folate (Vitamin B9)</h2>

Folate is critical for DNA synthesis, red blood cell production, and cellular division. Low folate contributes to fatigue, mood disturbances, and elevated homocysteine (a cardiovascular risk marker). Women of reproductive age have particularly high folate requirements.

<h2>Magnesium</h2>

An estimated 50 percent or more of the population does not consume adequate magnesium. This mineral is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions including energy production, muscle and nerve function, blood sugar regulation, and sleep quality. Low magnesium can cause muscle cramps, poor sleep, anxiety, constipation, and headaches. Standard blood tests may not capture magnesium deficiency accurately because most magnesium is stored intracellularly, not in serum.

<h2>Omega-3 Fatty Acids</h2>

While not a vitamin, omega-3 status is increasingly recognized as an important health marker. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) support cardiovascular health, brain function, joint health, and inflammatory balance. Most Western diets are severely deficient in omega-3s relative to omega-6s.

<h2>Testing at Rani Beauty Clinic</h2>

During your initial evaluation and ongoing monitoring at our Renton clinic, we include relevant nutritional markers based on your individual risk factors, symptoms, and treatment goals. Identifying and correcting deficiencies removes obstacles to optimal health and ensures your body has the raw materials it needs to benefit fully from your weight management, peptide, or aesthetic treatment program.

Supplementation recommendations are specific to your lab results. We do not recommend generic multivitamins for everyone. Instead, we target the specific nutrients your body needs based on objective data.
