Understanding the recovery timeline for a chemical peel removes the uncertainty and helps you plan accordingly. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we perform VI Peels and PRX-T33 treatments, each with a distinct recovery pattern. Here is your day-by-day guide for a medium-depth peel like the VI Peel.

Day of treatment: The peel solution is applied in the office. You feel warming and tingling during application that subsides after the peel is neutralized or within an hour. For VI Peel specifically, you leave with the solution on your skin and wash it off at home after four to six hours. Your skin may look slightly pink or have a yellow-tinted appearance from the peel solution. No significant discomfort.

Day one: Your skin feels tight and dry. There may be a slight darkening of the skin, particularly in areas with more pigmentation. This darkening is normal and indicates that the peel is working on those pigmented areas. Moisturize as directed and avoid touching your face unnecessarily. Gentle cleansing with the provided products is all that is needed.

Day two: Tightness increases as the outer layers of skin begin to separate from the new skin forming underneath. You may notice your skin looks slightly shiny or waxy. The feeling of tightness can be managed with the post-peel moisturizer provided in your take-home kit. Some patients find their skin feels like it is a size too small for their face. This is temporary.

Day three: This is typically when peeling begins, starting around the mouth and chin where the skin is thinnest and facial movement is greatest. The peeling may appear as light flaking or more noticeable sheets of skin separating. The key rule: do not pull, pick, or peel the skin. Let it separate naturally. Premature removal can cause scarring and uneven results.

Days four through five: Peeling is at its most active phase. Large areas of the face may be visibly peeling, and the contrast between peeling skin and fresh new skin underneath can look dramatic. This is the stage when many patients prefer to stay home or limit social commitments. The new skin revealed underneath is pink, fresh, and visibly smoother than the old skin.

Days six through seven: Peeling is winding down for most patients. Most of the dead skin has shed, revealing the new skin underneath across the majority of the treatment area. Some areas, particularly around the hairline and jawline, may still have residual peeling. Your skin looks significantly better but still needs gentle care.

Days eight through ten: Peeling is essentially complete. Your new skin is revealed and looks noticeably improved. The tone is more even, texture is smoother, and there is a fresh, luminous quality to the skin that patients love. However, this new skin is sensitive and vulnerable. Strict sun protection is essential. Continue using gentle products only.

Weeks two through three: Your skin is healing and strengthening. You can gradually reintroduce your normal skincare products as directed by your provider. Sun sensitivity remains elevated, so SPF 30 or higher is mandatory. The improvements in tone, texture, and clarity become more apparent as the skin fully heals.

Week four and beyond: Your skin has healed and you are seeing the full result of your chemical peel. Hyperpigmentation has lightened, skin texture is smoother, pores appear refined, and there is a healthy glow that was not there before. Collagen stimulation from the peel continues to improve skin quality for weeks after the visible peeling has stopped.

For PRX-T33, the recovery is dramatically different. There is typically no visible peeling at all. You may experience mild dryness and light flaking for a few days, but most patients return to normal activities and makeup application immediately. The results of PRX-T33 build over a series of treatments.
