First Timer Guide

A little preparation goes a long way toward making your medspa appointment successful and comfortable. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we want every patient to feel confident and ready when they arrive. Here is your complete preparation guide.

One week before your appointment, start making smart choices for your skin. If you are having a facial treatment, laser procedure, or chemical peel, avoid retinol and exfoliating acids for at least five to seven days beforehand. These active ingredients make your skin more sensitive and can increase the risk of irritation during treatment. If you are on prescription tretinoin, ask our team whether you need to pause it before your specific treatment.

Also in the week before, avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds. Sunburned or recently tanned skin is more susceptible to complications with many aesthetic treatments, especially laser procedures. If you have an outdoor event planned, apply diligent sunscreen and limit direct exposure.

Two to three days before your appointment, avoid blood-thinning supplements and medications if possible and approved by your doctor. Fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin, and ibuprofen can increase bruising risk for injectable treatments. Arnica supplements taken before your appointment may help minimize bruising. Always check with your prescribing physician before stopping any prescribed medications.

The day before your appointment, stay well hydrated. Hydrated skin responds better to virtually every aesthetic treatment, and being well hydrated makes the experience more comfortable. Aim for at least eight glasses of water. Also avoid alcohol the night before, as alcohol is dehydrating and increases bruising tendency for injectable procedures.

The morning of your appointment, eat a light meal. You do not want to arrive on an empty stomach, especially for injectable treatments, as some patients feel lightheaded if they have not eaten. A balanced breakfast or lunch with protein and complex carbohydrates is ideal.

Arrive with a clean face if you are having a facial treatment. This saves time during your appointment since we would need to remove makeup anyway. For injectable appointments, light foundation is fine, but skip the heavy concealer or powder in the treatment area.

Bring a list of your current medications, supplements, and any allergies. This information is critical for your safety and helps our team customize your treatment plan. If you completed our intake form online, you have already provided this information, but having it available for reference is helpful.

Prepare your questions. Write down anything you want to ask your provider. No question is too small or too basic. Our team expects questions and welcomes them. Understanding your treatment fully helps you feel confident and leads to better outcomes.

Finally, plan your schedule so that you are not rushing before or after your appointment. Give yourself a buffer. The relaxation that comes from not being in a hurry contributes to a better experience and, for injectable treatments in particular, less muscle tension leads to more comfortable treatment.
