Your clinician performs a detailed assessment of your scars — evaluating scar type (atrophic, hypertrophic, keloid, stretch marks), depth, texture, color, and location. We may use our AI Skin Analysis to map and measure scar severity objectively. Based on this assessment, we design a customized treatment plan using one or more modalities.
Treatment Preparation
A topical numbing cream is applied 30–45 minutes before the procedure. The treatment area is cleaned and prepped. Your clinician calibrates the laser or RF microneedling device to the optimal settings for your specific scar type and skin tone.
Scar Treatment Delivery
For laser scar revision, targeted laser energy is delivered to the scar tissue, breaking down irregular collagen fibers and stimulating new collagen formation. For RF microneedling, the Cutera Secret Pro creates controlled micro-channels combined with radiofrequency heat, triggering deep collagen remodeling. Combination therapies may use both modalities in a single session or sequence them across multiple appointments.
Post-Treatment Care
A soothing serum and healing ointment are applied. You receive detailed aftercare instructions including wound care guidelines, sun protection requirements, and a timeline for follow-up treatments. We schedule your next session based on your treatment plan and healing progress.

What to Expect
Before
Avoid sun exposure, tanning, and retinoids for 2 weeks prior to treatment. Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotion, or sunscreen on the treatment area. Discontinue blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E) for 1 week before treatment, if approved by your physician.
During
After numbing takes effect (30–45 min), the treatment itself takes 40–90 minutes depending on the modality and treatment area. You may feel pressure, warmth, or mild prickling during the procedure. The numbing cream ensures the treatment is well-tolerated for the vast majority of patients.
After
Expect redness, mild swelling, and possible pinpoint bleeding or crusting for 2–5 days (more with RF microneedling, less with laser alone). Keep the treated area clean and moisturized as directed. Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ diligently during the healing period. Most patients return to normal activities within 1–3 days, with makeup application cleared after 24–48 hours.
Results & Recovery
Scar improvement is gradual and cumulative. You may notice initial improvement within 2–4 weeks as the skin heals and new collagen begins to form. The most significant results develop over 2–6 months after each treatment session as collagen continues to remodel. Most scar reduction protocols involve a series of 3–6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart. With each session, scars become progressively smoother, shallower, and less visible. Yes, with appropriate protocol selection. Our Candela GentleMax Pro Plus features an Nd:YAG 1064nm laser that is safe and effective for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI). The Cutera Secret Pro RF microneedling is also safe for all skin types because the radiofrequency energy is delivered beneath the skin surface, minimizing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Can scar treatment be combined with other procedures?+
