After laser treatment at Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, your skin enters a healing phase that requires specific care to optimize results and prevent complications. Whether you had PicoWay laser for pigmentation, laser hair removal, or another laser procedure, these guidelines will help you through recovery.

The first 24 hours: Your skin may feel warm, appear red, and have a sunburn-like sensitivity. This is a normal inflammatory response indicating the treatment is working. Apply a gentle, soothing moisturizer or the post-treatment product provided by your Rani Beauty Clinic provider. Avoid all active ingredients. Keep the area clean with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Apply cold compresses if needed for comfort, but do not apply ice directly to the skin.

Days one through three: Continue with gentle cleanser and moisturizer only. Your skin may feel tight, dry, or mildly uncomfortable. Some treatments cause temporary darkening of pigmented areas, which indicates the laser targeted the pigment successfully. Do not attempt to exfoliate, scrub, or remove any darkened areas. They will shed naturally over the coming days.

Sunscreen becomes critical during this period. Laser-treated skin is significantly more vulnerable to UV damage, and sun exposure during recovery can cause hyperpigmentation that is difficult to correct. Apply SPF 30 or higher every two hours when outdoors, and wear a wide-brimmed hat for additional protection. In the Pacific Northwest, do not be fooled by cloud cover. UV rays penetrate clouds.

Days three through seven: Redness is diminishing and your skin is actively healing. Continue the simple routine of gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. You may notice peeling, flaking, or darkened spots beginning to lift. Allow this process to happen naturally. Picking or peeling the skin manually risks scarring and uneven results.

Week two: Most visible healing is complete for many laser treatments. You can begin cautiously reintroducing products, starting with the mildest ones first. Add back your hydrating serum (hyaluronic acid) first. Then reintroduce your antioxidant serum (vitamin C). Wait to reintroduce retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and other active exfoliants until your provider gives the green light, typically at two to four weeks post-treatment.

Weeks two through four: Continue building back your routine gradually. Your provider at Rani Beauty Clinic will guide the timeline for reintroducing specific products based on your treatment type and skin response. During this period, your skin may still be more sensitive than usual, so introduce one product at a time and monitor for any irritation.

Products to avoid during laser recovery: Retinol and tretinoin (until cleared by your provider), AHA and BHA exfoliants, physical scrubs and exfoliating brushes, fragrance-containing products, alcohol-based toners, self-tanning products, and any products that cause tingling or stinging on normal skin.

Products that support laser recovery: Gentle fragrance-free cleanser, ceramide-rich moisturizer to support barrier repair, hyaluronic acid for hydration, centella asiatica or aloe-based products for soothing, mineral sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, and antioxidant serums (vitamin C, vitamin E) once initial healing is complete.

Long-term post-laser skincare: After full recovery, maintaining a quality skincare routine preserves and extends your laser results. Consistent sunscreen use prevents the recurrence of pigmentation issues. Tretinoin maintains the collagen stimulation initiated by the laser. Antioxidants protect against the environmental damage that lasers helped correct. Your laser treatment was an investment, and your daily routine protects that investment.
