One of the most common questions after any aesthetic treatment is when to resume normal skincare products. Reintroducing active ingredients too early can cause irritation, compromise results, or extend recovery. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we provide this timeline to guide your product resumption safely.

The general principle is that gentler treatments allow faster product resumption, while more intensive treatments require longer waiting periods. Every patient heals at a slightly different rate, so these timelines are guidelines. If your skin shows signs of irritation when reintroducing a product, pause and wait another few days.

After HydraFacial, most products can be resumed within twelve to twenty-four hours. Gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF can be used immediately. Active serums like vitamin C can be applied the same evening. Retinoids can resume the following evening. This rapid return to normal routine is one of HydraFacial's greatest advantages.

After Botox and filler, skincare products can be resumed immediately on the rest of the face. The injection sites should be treated gently with no pressure or rubbing for twenty-four hours. Do not apply products that require rubbing into the injection areas during this period. Tap or pat products on gently instead.

After chemical peels, the timeline depends on peel depth. After a light peel, gentle products resume in one to two days and actives in three to five days. After a VI Peel or medium-depth peel, gentle products are used during the peeling phase with actives resuming at ten to fourteen days once peeling is complete and skin has stabilized. After deep peels, gentle products may be restricted for weeks with actives resuming only after complete re-epithelialization.

After RF microneedling, only the recommended post-treatment serums should be used for the first twenty-four hours. Gentle cleanser and moisturizer resume at twenty-four hours. Vitamin C can typically resume at five to seven days. Retinoids resume at seven to fourteen days depending on healing progress. AHAs and BHAs resume at ten to fourteen days.

After laser treatments including IPL and PicoWay, gentle products resume within twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Vitamin C resumes at five to seven days. Retinoids resume at seven to fourteen days. AHAs and BHAs resume at two weeks. More aggressive laser treatments may require longer delays. Always follow your clinician's specific guidance for your treatment.

After LED therapy, all products can be used immediately. LED therapy does not create any surface disruption and has no effect on product tolerance. This makes LED an excellent complement to active skincare routines.

SPF should be applied from the first day after every treatment except during specific post-peel phases where it is included in the peel kit protocol. Sun protection is the most important product during recovery from any skin treatment and should never be delayed.

The product resumption hierarchy for most treatments follows a consistent pattern. First to resume: cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, and hyaluronic acid. Second to resume: niacinamide, peptides, and vitamin C. Third to resume: retinoids and retinol. Last to resume: AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, and other aggressive actives. Following this hierarchy from gentlest to most active minimizes the risk of irritation.

Signs that you are resuming products too quickly include stinging or burning upon application, increased redness, flaking or peeling that was not present before, and breakouts in areas that are not normally acne-prone. If these signs occur, pare back to gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF for several more days before reattempting active product introduction.

Follow your personalized product timeline from Rani Beauty Clinic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

After HydraFacial, the next evening. After chemical peels, ten to fourteen days after peeling completes. After RF microneedling, seven to fourteen days. After laser treatments, seven to fourteen days. These timelines are guidelines and individual healing rates vary.

Wait five to seven days after most laser treatments before resuming vitamin C serum. This allows the initial healing phase to complete. When you resume, start with one application and assess tolerance before returning to twice-daily use.

Stinging indicates the product is too active for your current healing stage. Stop the product immediately and return to gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF only. Wait two to three additional days before reattempting. If stinging persists, contact your clinician.
