Knowing the difference between normal adjustment symptoms and signs that warrant medical attention is empowering. At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, WA, we want every patient to feel confident about when to contact us and when to simply continue their treatment plan.

Normal Adjustment Symptoms

The following symptoms are common during GLP-1 therapy, especially during the first weeks and after dose increases, and do not typically require urgent contact. Mild nausea that improves with dietary adjustments. Decreased appetite and feeling full sooner. Mild constipation or changes in bowel habits. Slight fatigue during the first few days after a dose increase. Minor injection site redness or tenderness.
These symptoms generally resolve within one to two weeks as your body adjusts. Use the management strategies your provider has discussed with you, and mention any persistent symptoms at your next scheduled appointment.

When to Call Between Appointments

Contact Rani Beauty Clinic if you experience persistent vomiting that prevents you from keeping food or fluids down for more than 24 hours. Severe abdominal pain that is different from mild GI discomfort. Signs of pancreatitis: severe, persistent upper abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Signs of allergic reaction: hives, rash, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing. Symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): shakiness, confusion, excessive sweating, rapid heartbeat, especially if you also take insulin or sulfonylureas. Significant swelling or a lump at the injection site that does not resolve. Signs of dehydration: very dark urine, dizziness, confusion, extreme thirst despite drinking fluids. Unusual mood changes, including persistent depression or anxiety.

Rare but Serious Concerns

Gallbladder issues: Rapid weight loss can increase the risk of gallstone formation. Symptoms include pain in the upper right abdomen, especially after eating fatty foods, sometimes radiating to the back or right shoulder. Nausea and vomiting accompanying this specific pain pattern warrant prompt evaluation.
Kidney concerns: Severe, prolonged vomiting or diarrhea can cause dehydration that affects kidney function. If you experience persistent GI symptoms that prevent adequate fluid intake, contact your provider promptly.
Thyroid changes: Although the connection between GLP-1 medications and thyroid tumors has only been observed in animal studies, report any new lump or swelling in your neck, persistent hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or shortness of breath.

When to Go to the Emergency Room

Seek emergency care if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Chest pain or difficulty breathing. Severe, unrelenting abdominal pain. Confusion, loss of consciousness, or extreme disorientation. Signs of a blood sugar crisis (extreme hypoglycemia) that does not respond to treatment.

The Difference Between Concern and Emergency

Most symptoms that develop during GLP-1 therapy are manageable and do not represent emergencies. However, erring on the side of caution is always appropriate. If you are unsure whether a symptom warrants contact, contact us. We would rather reassure you that everything is normal than have you worry in silence about a symptom that deserves attention.
At Rani Beauty Clinic in Renton, your safety is our top priority. We provide clear communication channels so you can reach us when you need guidance, and we respond promptly to patient concerns.
